Open the door contactlessly: review of new Ultraloq products at CES 2026

The U-tec company, known under the Ultraloq brand, presented a series of innovative devices for the smart home at CES 2026, writes xrust. Main star — Ultraloq Bolt Sense, a compact smart lock with support for 3D facial recognition and palm vein scanning. This allows you to open the door completely contactless, without an app, keys or touch.

Open the lock with your palm: why venous recognition is more reliable than fingerprints

Palm vein scanning technology uses near-infrared light to capture the unique pattern of blood vessels under the skin. According to studies of biometric systems (for example, from Fujitsu and Hitachi, pioneers of this technology), venous recognition is superior to fingerprint in reliability:

  • Works even with wet, dirty or damaged hands — the skin surface is not affected.
  • Operates in complete darkness thanks to IR illumination.
  • Almost impossible to fake: veins are hidden inside, false positives (FAR) below 0.0001%.
  • More hygienic — contactless mode.

Bolt Sense has built-in Wi-Fi, and support for the Matter standard is planned for release in the second quarter of 2026 (source: The Verge, AppleInsider).

Share with Matter: other locks in the line

  1. Ultraloq Latch 7 Pro— The flagship model for latches, with Matter-over-Thread for stable communication and low power consumption. Supports the future Aliro standard (auto-open via UWB) and Z-Wave. Release in the first quarter of 2026.
  2. Ultraloq Bolt Mission UWB — already available (after preview at CES 2025), uses ultra-wideband communication for precise position determination and hands-free opening.

Matter provides compatibility with Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa and Samsung SmartThings without additional hubs.

Open new horizons in video surveillance: Ulticam cameras

U-tec expands the ecosystem with cameras:

  • Ulticam IQ V2 is the brand’s first camera with Matter.
  • Ulticam HaLow— a revolutionary model based on Wi-Fi HaLow (802.11ah). Operates in the sub-GHz range, providing a range of up to 1 km (in real tests — up to 3 km in line of sight, source: Morse Micro demos). Penetrates walls better, ideal for large areas, farms or warehouses. Includes hub — no need for a special router.
  • Ulticam IQ Floodlight — with AI detection and 2000 lumens floodlights for night shooting in 4K.

Wi-Fi HaLow combines the range of LPWAN technologies (like LoRa) with bandwidth Wi-Fi — up to 86 Mbit/s over short distances.

Open perspectives: technology background

Palm vein biometrics has been used in banks and airports in Japan since the 2000s (original source: Fujitsu PalmSecure). A new feature in consumer locks that improves security.

The Matter Standard (from 2022) solves the problem of smart home fragmentation. By 2026, most new devices will support it (Connectivity Standards Alliance).

Wi-Fi HaLow was announced in 2016, but is now gaining popularity thanks to Morse Micro chips. Advantages: range 10-100 times longer than regular Wi-Fi, low consumption, supports thousands of devices per point.

Expert comment:

«Venous recognition is the next level after fingerprints: it is resistant to external factors and virtually invulnerable to spoofing. In combination with Matter, such locks will become the standard for a secure smart home,” note Android Headlines analysts.
