Women retain this feature, notes Xrust for centuries. This fact does not depend on countries and continents. More and more data indicates that the relative longevity of women may be partly due to the presence of two X-chromosomes. They create excessive protection against harmful mutations.
This theory has received further confirmation after the publication of the most large-scale analysis of differences in the life expectancy of males and females in more than 1000 species of mammals and birds.
«Heterogamet Sexual Hypothesis» claims that if something is going wrong with the genome on one of the X-chromosomes, her cells have a spare. However, men with only one X-chromosome have no such reinforcements. A similar problem can arise with an unpaired Y-chromosome man.
Researchers collected data on the life expectancy of 528 species of mammals and 648 species of birds contained in zoos. The team found that most other mammals are similar to people: females of almost three quarters of mammals live longer than males.
