Weight loss with drugs from Novo Nordisk and Eli Lilly led to blindness

Weight loss promised by drugs from Novo Nordisk and Eli Lilly turned into blindness. A federal panel said Monday it was consolidating a growing number of lawsuits against the companies.

The U.S. Judicial Panel, which handles multidistrict litigation, agreed with the plaintiffs that the cases should be centralized, xrust writes. The single document will subsequently be filed in federal court in Philadelphia.

The new multi-party lawsuit alleges that these drugs, including Novo Nordisk's Ozempic, Wegovy and Saxenda, and Eli Lilly's Trulicity, can cause non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy. This is a condition in which blood flow to the optic nerve is blocked or reduced, which can lead to blindness.
