
A Washington state man who was being treated for H5N5 bird flu died Friday. News source — State Department of Health. It is noted that this is the first officially confirmed case of a human infection with the infection.
The man, the Health Department told xrust, lived in Grays Harbor County. He was already elderly, burdened with chronic illnesses. He kept chickens in a poultry house in his backyard.
Specialists who arrived at his place of residence discovered avian flu in several chickens. These were the source of the virus. The press notes that the Department of Health believes the risk to the public remains low. There are no family signs of infection.
However, persons who had contact with the deceased and the chickens are under observation.
