Three phenomenal games that you undeservedly missed

Three phenomenal games suddenly disappeared into oblivion. This happens often in our world. Bad marketing, bad timing of the release, and just plain bad luck are to blame here. There are always games that do not win an audience, despite their characteristics in the genre.

Below is a list of three such xrust games that never found the audience they deserve. If you do yourself a favor and play them, you'll quickly regret taking so long to do so.

Spec Ops: The Line
It was almost impossible for publisher 2K to sell Spec Ops: The Line. At first glance, Spec Ops looks like any other shooter of its era. It has that typical brownish-orange tint to it. You lead the elite Delta Force on a secret mission in Dubai. Heck, there's even a multiplayer mode you could theoretically play.

However, Spec Ops gradually shatters all your expectations to smithereens. The game becomes a thoughtful exploration of video game violence, playing on your expectations to tell a compelling story that will make you experience things you thought were impossible in a 2010s shooter. Oh yeah, and the multiplayer mode? It was added by the publisher to another developer and was largely considered a waste of time by fans and the team.

Jade Empire
BioWare, the developer of many of the biggest RPGs of the era, gave fans many games. Among these are Baldur's Gate 2, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Mass Effect and Dragon Age. Jade Empire is worth mentioning in the same breath as these games, but most players completely missed its release in 2005.

By the way, this is not Jade Empire's fault. The game is exceptional, with a vibrant world and incredible replay value. The combat is a little sketchy, but overall pretty good. The problem, rather, is the timing of the release of Jade Empire.

BioWare partnered with Microsoft to make Jade Empire exclusive to the original Xbox. The problem is that by the time Jade Empire was released in 2005, most players were eagerly awaiting the release of the Xbox 360, which was due out a few months later. Releasing on hardware that was soon to become obsolete proved to be a virtual death sentence for one of BioWare's best games.

Eternal Darkness
Eternal Darkness had one of the greatest innovations of the GameCube era. However, Nintendo patented this concept, so when many players missed out on this horror game, we didn't see the advanced Sanity Effects feature in future games. This is similar to what happened with the Nemesis system in Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor. The team created something that could change the game, but the patent meant that the game remained unchanged.

Eternal Darkness is an outstanding horror game. Despite numerous attempts, we have yet to receive a sequel or spiritual successor, and Nintendo has yet to release it on Nintendo Switch Online. We hope this changes soon. More players should try one of the best games, Silicon Knights.
