Scarlett Johansson to star in new film 'The Exorcist'

The film only grossed $65.5 million in the US and Canada and $136.2 million worldwide. Agree that purchasing the filming rights for $400 million could have had a greater return.

The studio met with a number of leading experts. But Johansson proved to be the ideal candidate after she helped reboot the Jurassic World franchise last summer with Jurassic World: Rebirth. The film grossed approximately $869 million worldwide.

The film will tell a completely new story set in the Exorcist universe and is not a sequel to The Exorcist: The Believer. The film is being produced by Blumhouse-Atomic Monster and Morgan Creek Entertainment.
