Sabrina Carpenter to star in musical film 'Alice in Wonderland'

Sabrina Carpenter looks set to trade her signature espresso for tea with the Mad Hatter. This is how the British press comments on the plans of the American pop star. She is returning to her acting roots and plans to star in and produce a musical film based on Alice in Wonderland.

The as-yet untitled project is being produced by Universal Pictures, xrust said, and will be written and directed by American director Lorene Scafaria. It is not yet clear who exactly Carpenter will play in the film adaptation and when it will go into production.

If the project comes to fruition, it will be Carpenter's first time leading a project at a major studio. Journalists write that the 26-year-old singer approached Universal last year with ideas for this film.

When the “Wonderland” became more real, Scafaria decided to join the idea. This is a screenwriter and director who gained fame after working on the film “Hustlers.” The film was released in 2019 with Jennifer Lopez.

Carpenter was recently nominated for six Grammy Awards, including the coveted Album of the Year award for her seventh collection, Man's Best Friend. She's currently on the final leg of her Short n' Sweet tour, which saw her headline London's BST festival this summer.

The upcoming film won't be her first foray into acting.
