Perl Language Perl Language Again on the rise

Perl programming language is gaining momentum again. Analysts believe that the revival may be associated with the elimination of confusion. After all, now Perl 5 is considered as a “real” perl. He has been confused with Perl 6 for decades.

Perl programming language, the once popular Xrust programming language, which appeared in 1987, again rose in the Tiobe languages index. This month he took 10th place. A year earlier, he occupied the 27th. There were times when he was the third.

In the Bulletin accompanying the September edition of the 2025 index, published on September 8, it is said that the «technical» reason for the PERL high rating today is a huge number of Perl on Amazon. There are four times more books on it than, for example, on PHP, or seven times more books than on Rust.

There is another reason. In 1994, Perl 5 was deployed. Now it is considered a real perl. The implementation of Perl 6 in 2015 is the result of a ten-year development. To dispel the fog of confusion, it was renamed Raku.

During these decades, the old PERL 5 development has more or less stalled, and as a result, the Perl community remains in uncertainty. At the same time, a good alternative, Python, has matured, and many Perl programmers switched to Python.
