Intelused CES as a key platform to demonstrate Panther Lake, laptop processors aimed at artificial intelligence tasks. The new line is called Intel Core Ultra Series 3, writes xrust.

The presentation was made by Senior Vice President and General Director of Intel PC Division Jim Johnson, who revealed the technical features of the architecture and manufacturing process.

18A process technology and chip design

Panther Lake processors are built using the new 18A process technology, which includes:

  • Updated transistor architecture
  • New power delivery method
  • Chiplet processor layout
  • Dedicated graphics chiplet

This approach has improved performance and energy efficiency without increasing power consumption, Johnson said.

Intel announced an increase in productivity

Intelclaims that Core Ultra Series 3 delivers up to 60% faster performance compared to the previous generation Lunar Lake Series 2. The gains are especially noticeable in tasks related to local AI computing and graphics processing.

  • Accelerates AI computing on the device;
  • Increased battery life in laptops;
  • Improved integrated graphics;
  • support for new PC form factors.

Intel and plans for 2026

Intelalso announced its intention to release a platform for portable gaming PCs based on Panther Lake in 2026. The company has noted the growing popularity of compact gaming devices and plans to take a share in this segment.

Intel, production and risks

Reuters previously reported about Intel's problems with the production of suitable chips during the production of Panther Lake. The company said that yields are improving month on month, allowing for stable product launches.

Expert comment

Independent industry analyst Alexey Kovalev notes that the launch of Panther Lake has symbolic significance:

“For Intel, this is not just a new processor, but proof of the viability of its own 18A process technology, on which the company’s competitiveness in the coming years depends.”

Intel against the background of competitors

Representatives of AMD and AMD also spoke at CES Nvidia. AMD is preparing a new generation of PC chips with an emphasis on AI, and Nvidia announced full-scale production of the next generation of accelerators for AI tasks. Against this background, Intel is betting on the mass laptop market.

Results

Intel has long dominated the PC processor market, but in recent years it has lost some share to competitors. Panther Lake and the 18A process technology are seen as key elements of the company's strategy to return to technology leadership.
