Three contenders, one throne: the Formula 1 final in Abu Dhabi is the craziest ending in 15 years
Formula 1 has not seen such tension since 2010. In December, the fate of the championship title is being decided at the Yas Marina circuit, and there are three contenders. It sounds like the premise of a Hollywood thriller, but this is our reality.
Power balance before the final battle
Lando Norris is in the lead with 408 points. Behind him are Max Verstappen (396) and Oscar Piastri (392). The gap between first and third is only 16 points. The final 25 points of the season are up for grabs.
Qualifying added some intrigue: Verstappen is on pole with a time of 1:22.295. Norris will start second, Piastri third. The Dutchman again showed why he is called the best qualifier of our time — this is his eighth pole position of the season.
Who needs what for the crown
For Norris, everything is simple:
- Finish in the top 3 = title guaranteed
- 4-5 place is enough if Verstappen does not win
- Even 8th place can save certain scenarios
Verstappen needs a miracle:
- Victory + Norris off the podium
- Any other scenario requires failure of both competitors
Piastri remains an outsider, but mathematically still in the game.
As Xrust experts note, such an end to the season is a real gift for the fans after several years of dominance Red Bull. McLaren has finally given a real challenge and the orange army can celebrate.
