Film director, actor and political activist Rob Reiner was found dead at home. The wife was also lifeless. The police investigating the incident said that it looked like a murder.
The film director and his wife were not initially identified as specific people in reports and news, xrust notes. Only later did Mayor Karen Bass and California Gov. Gavin Newsom release statements. They confirmed the death of 78-year-old Reiner and his 68-year-old wife Michelle.
The Los Angeles Police Department posted a statement on social media, calling the incident a “suspected homicide.” Even today, the police have not detained anyone yet. The dead were discovered late Sunday.
As an actor, Reiner is best remembered for his role as Mike «Meathead» Stivic on the hit 1970s CBS sitcom «All in the Family,» where he played the son-in-law and liberal nemesis of the titular character, blue-collar fanatic Archie Bunker, played by Carroll O'Connor. For this role, Reiner received two Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actor.
Reiner continued his prolific career in Hollywood as a director, beginning with This Is Spinal Tap (1984), a mockumentary chronicling the trials and tribulations of a fictional hard rock band on the road. The satirical film became a cult classic, known for its largely improvised script, starring Reiner as mockumentary filmmaker Marty DiBergi.
