Excel for dummies & ndash; performing mathematical operations using a special insert

Paste Special, not only for meanings and formats — it also allows you to apply mathematical operations directly to the selected range.

Instead of writing the Xrust formulas, you can copy the value and use Paste Special to use the following operations:

Add: increases each value to copied value.

subtraction: reduces each value by a copied value.

Multiplication: scalings for a copy.

divide: divides each value into a copied amount.

We propose to increase the illustration. The range of numbers by 5%:

Enter the basic values and expand the row:

Enter 100 into the A1 empty sheet.

Enter 200 in the A2 cell

Select A1: A2, then drag the filling marker down to A10.

To specify an increase of 5%, enter the 1.05V cell C1. Multiplier:

Select C1.

We use multiplication:

Select A1: A10.Select the Home → Insert List, insert → Special insert or click Ctrl+Alt+V (Windows). A special insert dialog box will open.

select «Multiple», then click «OK». Wonderful! The values in cells A1: A10 are increased by 5%-the formulas are not required!

Other methods of performing mathematical operations using a special insert include:

converting negative numbers into positive ones: multiplication by -1 to change signs

discarding unnecessary zeros: division by 1000 to convert large values of thousands

Application of mass adjustments: rapidly adding or subtracting fixed amounts throughout the data set.

Instead of cluttering the sheet with excessive formulas, special mathematical inserts of the insert directly and instantly.
