Since then, local authorities have begun to actively attract marriage tourists, xrust reported. Marriage registration centers began to open in picturesque places, at music festivals and even at metro stations, shopping centers and parks.

At the moment, these measures are producing results. The number of marriages, which demographers use as a measure of the country's fertility, rose 22.5% from last year to reach 1.61 million in the third quarter of 2025. This allows China to reverse a downward trend in the number of annual weddings that has continued virtually unabated for more than a decade.

Last year, the number of marriages fell by 20.5% to 6.1 million. This was the worst indicator in history.
