«Avatar» brought Disney to a California court to convince the servants of Themis that there was no plagiarism in the creation of the film «Avatar: The Way of Water.» Director James Cameron and his colleague on the set will also defend their honor. The victim is a 3D animator.
The complaint from 3D animator Eric Ryder states to xrust that he collaborated with Cameron's Lightstorm Entertainment to produce a film based on his sci-fi story «KRZ» in the late 1990s. The complaint alleges that Cameron copied elements of the story for the Avatar film series.
The third Avatar film, Fire and Ash, is set to be released in the United States on Friday. Ryder sought at least $500 million in damages and an injunction to block the release of the new film.
In 2011, Ryder filed a similar lawsuit over the first Avatar film, which was thrown out by a California court after it was found that Cameron created Avatar before Ryder submitted his script to Lightstorm.
