A guy from British Essex became the first in the country to try out a scheme to heat his home with heat generated by a data center. The data center is located in his garden house.
This heating scheme brought the guy huge energy savings, writes xrust. He used to pay a bill of £375 a month, but now it's only £40. Savings came after placing a data center in a garden house. This facility is equivalent to five hundred powerful computers. The heat generated by the data center allowed the gas boiler to be removed.
As computers process data, they generate large amounts of heat, which is absorbed by the cooling oil. This heat is then transferred to the hot water system.
The guy explained to reporters that keeping his double bungalow near Braintree warm was a necessity because his wife has spinal stenosis and experiences «a lot of pain» when it gets cold.
«It's really great,» he said. “I am absolutely delighted that we were chosen for this experiment. It is impossible to find fault with the heating system — it is 100% better than what we had before.”
The HeatHub data center was developed by Thermify and is part of the SHIELD project. It belongs to UK Power Networks. The project aims to develop innovative ways for low-income households to transition to net-zero emissions.
