There are games that are announced and then seem to be erased from memory. Marvel's Wolverine was just such a ghost: it appeared in 2021, disappeared for years, resurfaced due to an unfortunate leak in 2023, and disappeared again. And now Insomniac has finally stopped leading us by the nose — Logan sharpens its claws for September 15, 2026, exclusively for PS5.
Five years of silence is either a recipe for disaster or a sign that the studio was serious. Judging by the gameplay display at the State of Play in June, we're betting on the latter.
This is not another superhero attraction
Insomniac ate the dog on Spider-Man, but Wolverine is a different breed of animal. There are no flying on the web and no shining heroism here. There is adamantium, rage and the story of an adult, tired man who thought he was done.
What Insomniac has already shown and confirmed:
- Logan three years later, he returns to the Team X squad, when industrialist Bolivar Trask begins a hunt for mutants
- The combat system is built around the Rage scale — the more you hit, the more destructive the attacks become and the more active regeneration works
- The third level of Fury turns the screen into a black, white and bloody stylization based on Marvel comics
- Familiar faces: Jean Gray, Mystic, Omega Red, and at the end of the trailer there was a glimpse of someone suspiciously similar to Sabretooth
- The scenery is snowy Canada, the narrow streets of Tokyo and the island state of Madripoor
The price of exclusivity
There will be no illusions here: there will be no PC version. Sony has closed the door — you can only play on PS5, period. The Standard Edition costs $69.99, the Digital Deluxe costs $79.99 with cosmetic costumes and claws. This isn't the first time we've noticed on Xrust that Sony's exclusivity works like a double-edged blade. For some this is a reason to buy an additional console, for others it is a reason to grumble in the comments. There will be many of both.
The main intrigue is not in the pre-order bonuses, but in whether Insomniac can capture that same street, ruthless intonation for which Wolverine is generally loved. If so, it will become one of the main exclusives of the generation. If not, the five-year wait will turn into the most expensive joke of the year.
We bet on the claws at Xrust.ru.
