Jordan Ngatikaura has filed for divorce from The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives reality show star Jesse Ngatikaura.

PEOPLE confirms to xrust that Jordan filed for divorce on Thursday, March 19. The TV presenter issued a statement saying: «This was not an easy decision and it comes with a heavy heart.»

“I am grateful for the shared memories and lessons,” he said. “Although our paths now diverge, my priority remains my children.” My goal is to make them feel loved, supported and protected during this difficult time. “I am committed to approaching this new chapter with kindness and respect.”

He concluded his statement by asking for privacy and understanding while their family goes through this situation. Jordan and Jesse have son Jagger, 5, and daughter Jovi, 3. Jordan is also the father of daughter Peyton.

The divorce announcement comes days after Jessie spoke to PEOPLE about the state of her relationship with Jordan a year after their split.

In November, she told PEOPLE that she was “emotionally abused” by her husband and that they agreed to a 90-day separation to work on their relationship through therapy. Prior to Jesse's statement, Jordan issued a statement to PEOPLE in which he said, «I take full responsibility for the pain I caused Jesse during our marriage.»

In a March interview with PEOPLE, she said she and Jordan still «see a therapist a lot» — both individually and as a couple — to work through their marital issues. «We've been doing this for about a year since we broke up, and it's helped a lot,» the reality star continues. «It taught us a lot about what kind of people we are and what our relationships are, and it's still a process that's ongoing.»

Jessie also said that it's completely «normal» for a marriage to go through difficult times, and that she finds satisfaction in sharing that with the show's viewers. “I just wanted to share this because I know that marriage is hard, relationships are hard, and that it’s okay to face challenges.”

“Even in a good relationship there are ups and downs. So I think it’s important to show people that it’s worth fighting for, worth going through hardships, and that it’s always a process that requires constant improvement,” she said.
