The couple, engaged 35 years ago, shocked guests by throwing a surprise wedding under the guise of a party.

After 35 years of engagement, 60-year-old Alexandra Stewart and 55-year-old Robert Sharp from Campbeltown hesitated for a long time to get married, writes xrust. The couple just couldn't muster the energy to get married, but saw the opportunity to get married while planning Stewart's 60th birthday party in Scotland.

They sent out 60th birthday invitations to everyone they wanted to see at the celebration, not knowing that they would actually be attending the wedding.

The couple, who have been in a relationship for 37 years, exchanged vows in front of their closest family and friends on April 4 in the Crosslee Suite at The River Inn in Renfrewshire. The video of unsuspecting guests entering the ceremony hall has nearly 45,000 likes on Instagram, leaving many gasping in amazement.

One of the most memorable reactions was caused by the fact that guests, upon arriving at the venue, began to doubt whether they had confused the meeting place. After all, before their eyes opened a room prepared for a wedding. One of the ladies exclaimed: I'm not dressed for a wedding! Sandra, I can't believe it! I'm wearing sneakers! Look at me!

Stewart and Sharpe didn't care that most of the guests weren't dressed for a wedding. Moreover, they claim that the main point of the surprise was to relieve guests of the drama and stress associated with finding a wedding outfit.

Sharpe was wearing a beige suit with a patterned tie. Meanwhile, Stewart opted for a white dress with a V-neck and cap sleeves. When she first went shopping for a wedding dress in Glasgow with Sharp's niece, Michelle McAlister, they couldn't find anything she liked. However, a bridal shop assistant said their store in Carlisle, about 100 miles from Glasgow, had a dress more suited to Stewart's style.

Her hair was done by Pauline Briceland and her makeup was done by Stacey Makeup.

After the ceremony, guests enjoyed dinner. A buffet was provided. Stewart states: People still say how delicious it was. For dessert, they were served slices of a three-tier wedding cake, baked by their friend Nikki Peacock from Cloud Nine Cake Center in Glasgow. She found time to help the couple after local pastry chefs told them there was “too little time.”

A great DJ kept the dance floor from filling up. Sharpe also performed with his band Unison Anthems, which «took the party to the next level.» “Everyone had fun,” says Stewart.

Initially, when Stewart and Sharp were planning the birthday celebration, they thought they would have to organize two separate family dinners — one in Houston and the other in Campbeltown — to accommodate the interests of both families. When they found out in January that everyone would be near each other on lunch day in Campbeltown, they decided to combine everything into one event at The River Inn. Sharpe then suggested that they get married and have a surprise wedding, since it was a rare occasion when their loved ones could get together.
