The bride and groom from the Indian community of Sirmaur district swore fidelity on the Constitution at the wedding ceremony. Local traditions — the presence of a priest, consecration by fire, seven vows — were not needed by the newlyweds.
In general, the bride and groom sealed their marriage with vows based on constitutional and humanistic ideals, writes xrust. The ceremony took place on October 26. Inspired by the ideals of the framer of the Constitution, Bhim Rao Ambedkar, the newlyweds replaced religious customs with a vow of equality and mutual respect.
Before swearing the Constitution, the groom presented the bride with a wreath. They declared Ambedkar and the Constitution as witnesses to their union and received blessings from the family and villagers.
The ceremony was attended by many local residents and relatives who expressed admiration for the progressive stance of the couple. The family, who converted to Buddhism, organized the ceremony according to the principles of Ambedkar. The wedding invitations handed out featured images of Buddha, Saint Kabir and Ambedkar.
