Simple spring look: Alex Jones trench coat and indigo jeans — comfortable and stylish

You don’t have to create complex looks to look incredibly stylish. Alex Jones' plaid trench and indigo jeans are a prime example of this. Spring is the time when many throw on their best trench coats to add a touch of elegance to a casual look, and the structure of this style pairs perfectly with jeans.

Dark denim jeans remain a trend for 2026, having become popular last year, and The One Show presenter Alex incorporated dark blue straight-leg jeans into her look for a trip to South Wales. Writing about the visit on Instagram, she said she was filming an “important and moving documentary” there and had to endure “rain and hail.”

She paired the jeans with a matching navy jumper tucked in for a cohesive, minimalist and chic base look. Since her light beige Zara trench coat was already a bold contrast to her jeans, choosing a top in a similar shade helped keep it from looking too fussy.

Dark-colored jeans naturally look more formal than light-colored jeans, so they're great if you want to look smart while still feeling comfortable and relaxed.

Alex Jones pulled off this look perfectly, and her plaid coat is reversible, so it could have looked even more understated if she had worn it with a solid beige fabric facing out. The Zara style is single-breasted and features classic buttonhole detailing on the sleeves.

For the shoot in South Wales, Alex chose practical footwear to complement her look perfectly: brown lace-up hiking boots from LANX. Thanks to the cropped jeans, as she sat, we were able to see the boots in all their glory — and even catch a glimpse of her pretty striped socks!
