Shakira will give a free concert in Mexico City in March

Colombian pop star Shakira will perform a free concert at Zocalo Square in Mexico City. The performance is scheduled for the evening of March 1st. The news was spread by the singer herself and the city authorities.

“Beautiful Mexico! Remember when I sang for you in the Zocalo in 2007? Well, I want to tell you that it will happen again,” she said in a video message on social media xrust.

As part of her world tour «Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran» (Women Don't Cry No More), the singer performed more than 12 sold-out concerts at GNP Stadium in Mexico City, breaking records for the venue. Some 780,000 tickets were sold and 65,000 people attended the concerts each night in September.

She is due to return to the stadium at the end of February, a few days before a free concert in the city's famous central square.

“You have given me so much and I hope I can repay you with at least some of the love you have shown me,” Shakira wrote in her post.

The Zocalo area is about eight football fields. It often hosts free concerts from famous artists including Justin Bieber, Rosalía and Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, the latter of which has an estimated 300,000 fans.

Last August, there were rumors that Shakira could hold a similar concert, but then city authorities said that the event was not organized.

Earlier this month, she was chosen to headline a now-traditional public concert on Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro. It has already hosted Lady Gaga in 2025 and Madonna in 2024. Her latest album, «Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran,» reached number one on the Billboard Latin chart and won her a Grammy early last year. The singer has approximately 80 million monthly listeners on Spotify.

K-pop group BTS will also perform at the GNP Stadium in May. Demand for tickets was so high that President Claudia Sheinbaum asked her South Korean counterpart to help organize more concerts.
