Samsung has published a teaser demonstrating the built-in adaptive privacy protection system. It will soon appear in the flagship Galaxy S26 models. Unlike standard privacy protection systems, you will be able to choose which part of the screen will be hidden from prying eyes.
Samsung's new screen privacy technology.
If you're not familiar with privacy screens, here's how they typically work: On a microscopic level, these panels have microgrids that physically block light from passing through at certain angles. In practice, this means that users need to look straight at the display to see the contents of the screen clearly, while those looking at an angle will not see anything. While Samsung hasn't yet specified how its technology will work, it's likely based on similar principles, adjusting light emission in real time.
According to insider Ice Universe on Twitter, the smartphone manufacturer has gone even further, introducing adaptive elements such as activation only in certain areas of the screen where (and when) notifications appear, or automatic activation when it detects the user is using sensitive applications or functions in crowded areas, such as banking applications or the lock screen. It is not yet clear what will be used to determine these parameters, although there are claims that artificial intelligence built into the device will be involved.
You might argue: why make it responsive if privacy screens already work great? The idea is that regular privacy screens tend to have a trade-off in brightness due to their physical structure, whereas Samsung's implementation doesn't have this problem — if you leave this feature disabled (OneUI 8.5 is known to get this feature), the display will behave exactly like a regular AMOLED display. Expect more details next month as it is believed that this is when Samsung will officially unveil the Galaxy S26 series.
