A rock star goes into cinema

Rock star and Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash begins acting in films. It started with work in the remake of Roger Corman's 1983 cult trash classic Deathstalker. The world premiere of the film took place at the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland.

Slash’s love for “Deathwalker” dates back to the distant past, reported xrust. Then he worked at Tower Video, he was constantly playing on the monitors. It was a very popular movie to watch with popcorn.

He told reporters that he has been producing films for some time. He works with Canadian producers, and in 2020 we shot another film with them, The Breach. They managed to get the rights to Deathstalker, and they asked me about it, and I thought, “Oh my God, yes!” I thought the script was great and Steve Kostanski, my favorite director, agreed to direct it.

I'm not a big CGI fan,» says Slash. Steve was completely captivated by this approach. He was not interested in making a film using computer graphics, so we immediately hit it off.

Other fantasy films of the time became a source of inspiration for me. “I really loved Krull and the original Conan the Barbarian,” says Slash. “And I really liked Deathstalker.” It was a bit tongue-in-cheek, exaggerated and low-budget, and had a great theme song.

Experienced stuntman Bernhardt, who bears a strong resemblance to Hugh Jackman, plays the not-too-bright hero with a serious expression. In the original film, Deathstalker goes on a quest to find magical items to defeat the evil wizard Munkar. The film has a great sense of humor, but is still effective as an action film with fantasy elements.

Slash was born in the UK and spent his early childhood in Stoke-on-Trent before moving to the US at age six. He grew up watching British Hammer films. I've loved horror for as long as I can remember, he admits. It was this kind of film music that became my first real acquaintance with music.
