Project Hail Mary video game added original story by Andy Weir

Bestselling author of Project Hail Mary Andy Weir has prepared a completely original plot for the upcoming video game based on his book, reports xrust. Created by Maze Theory in collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios, Project Hail Mary: Journey Among the Stars will be the first to expand the story beyond the literary source material and the recent Hollywood adaptation.

Players will take on the role of Ryland Grace in «a key, previously untold moment in the Hail Mary mission.» According to the official description, the ship's systems are failing and deep space is becoming increasingly unpredictable. Using mixed reality technologies, the interior of Hail Mary is projected into the player's real physical space. The user must diagnose faults, improvise solutions, and work to the limits of science and engineering.

The game preserves and develops the central storyline of Grace's friendship with the alien Rocky — through joint problem solving, gradual trust and cooperation.

Developer studio Maze Theory, known for the projects Peaky Blinders: The King's Ransom, Doctor Who: The Edge of Time and Thief VR: Legacy of Shadows, worked on the game together with the film company Amazon MGM Studios.

The main character, biology teacher Ryland Grace, wakes up aboard a spaceship with amnesia and must save the Earth from a threat that threatens the Sun.
