OpenAI kills ChatGPT in its usual form: why do developers need a new “super application”

Programming

The era of simple chatbots is becoming a thing of the past. OpenAI is preparing a radical relaunch of ChatGPT that will transform the platform into a single super-app with built-in AI agents and advanced coding tools.

The custom and product development industry is on the verge of large-scale changes, xrust warns. As the Financial Times reports, citing sources inside OpenAI, the creators of ChatGPT plan to roll out a radically updated version of their flagship product in the coming weeks. According to the developers, the service will be transformed into a so-called “super app”, the key element of which will be autonomous AI agents and deeply integrated tools for writing code.

The main goal of the IT giant is to increase competition with Anthropic (creators of the Claude neural network) in the corporate sector and achieve stable profitability before the long-awaited IPO. The tech giant's strategy is changing: OpenAI management has decided to abandon «side quests» like the Sora video generator in order to focus on a single powerful ecosystem. One of the company’s top managers succinctly summarized the change in development vectors: “Chat is dead” . This means moving from simple text-based dialogue to an environment where AI solves complex problems autonomously.

For programmers and businesses, this means abandoning the usual “copilots” (simple code prompts) in favor of full-fledged digital employees. The architecture of the new ChatGPT will allow the deployment of a personal agent capable of seamlessly assisting the user in both workflows and everyday activities. The service will become a kind of gateway that will accumulate free traffic and convert it into paid specialized subscriptions (for example, for the advanced coding tool Codex).

Russian developers and team leaders should prepare for a new round of automation: the “era of agents” is emerging in the industry. The implementation of such tools can reduce the cost of routine code support and speed up the creation of an MVP (minimum viable product). However, foreign experts are already warning about security risks when providing LLM agents with access to real servers and databases, which will require IT departments to reconsider the concept of infrastructure protection.
