Megan Thee Stallion will return to Broadway after recovering from exhaustion

American rapper and songwriter Megan Thee Stallion shared the news with fans on Instagram on Wednesday that she had been hospitalized the night before, saying she felt ill while performing in the Broadway show «Moulin» Rouge!

“Last night was a real wake-up call for me,” wrote rapper xrust. “I've been pushing my limits lately, working my butt off, and finally my body said enough is enough.”

A representative for Megan Thee Stallion confirmed in a press release that the singer underwent a medical examination on Tuesday evening. Doctors concluded that she was suffering from severe exhaustion and dehydration, as well as vasoconstriction and decreased metabolism.

Confirming this assessment, the 31-year-old singer recalled that while performing on stage, she felt like she might faint.

Megan Thee Stallion is currently playing the role of Harold Zidler, an extravagant nightclub owner, in the Broadway production—the first time the role has been played by an actress whose gender has been changed.

Despite the fright she experienced, the rapper remained optimistic. She told fans she planned to take one day to rest and recover before returning to the stage on Thursday.

“I just need a day to reset and take care of myself,” she wrote. “I’ll come back feeling stronger.”

At the end of the post, she thanked her fans for their continued support by posting a photo of herself in full costume on stage. “Thank you for always being there for me and loving me through everything,” she added.

Megan Thee Stallion is a three-time Grammy Award winner and one of the most successful rappers of her generation. Her 2019 breakthrough hit “Hot Girl Summer,” featuring Nicki Minaj and Ty Dolla $in, cemented her rise to the top. The following year, her chart-topping single «Savage» earned her two Grammy Awards and dominated the US Billboard Hot 100.

The musical «Moulin Rouge!» starring Megan Thee Stallion opened March 24 on Broadway. The Broadway production is based on Baz Luhrmann's 2001 musical film of the same name, which starred Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor.

The plot centers on Christian, a young English poet who falls in love with Satine, a brilliant courtesan at the Moulin Rouge nightclub.

Megan Thee Stallion is scheduled to play the role of Harold Zidler until May 17.
