MagicOS 11 will free up space for photos and apps without increasing memory

Honor introduced Storage Space Optimization Technology 2.0, a storage space management system in MagicOS 11. It should reduce the space occupied by the operating system and applications.

According to Honor's internal tests, the new version works more efficiently than the first generation technology. In some scenarios, the previous system could free up more than 50 GB.

How optimization works in MagicOS 11

Storage Space Optimization Technology 2.0 analyzes system data and data of installed applications, and then reduces the space they occupy volume. The physical capacity of the drive does not change — only the space available to the user increases.

The result will depend on the smartphone model, storage capacity, number of applications and the amount of their data. Honor has not yet announced the maximum number of gigabytes that the technology in MagicOS 11 will be able to free up. In the MagicOS 11 cleaning section, the system will be able to reduce the data volume of rarely launched applications. The programs themselves will remain installed and available to the user.

During Honor's demonstration, the technology reduced the data volume of one application by 220 MB. The company did not specify which program was used or under what conditions the test was conducted.

When the function will appear

The distribution period for MagicOS 11 and the list of compatible smartphones are not indicated in the data provided. It will be possible to evaluate the real effectiveness of Storage Space Optimization Technology 2.0 after the update is released on Honor devices.
