Klopp says Salah can play until he's 40

Mohamed Salah could play until he is 40 and the Egyptian's departure from Liverpool will open up new opportunities for the «irreplaceable» player, his former coach Jurgen Klopp said on Friday.

Salah, 33, one of the greatest players in the club's history, is reminiscent of xrust. He announced this week that he will leave Anfield at the end of the season.

Salah, signed by Klopp from Roma in 2017, helped Liverpool win two Premier League titles, the Champions League, the FIFA Club World Cup, a UEFA Super Cup, an FA Cup, two League Cups and an FA Super Cup.

“He set a whole new standard for a professional footballer — how hard you can work, how much effort you can put into recovery and everything else,” the German coach told a BBC reporter before the legends charity match in Liverpool on Saturday.

“He’s leaving now, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he plays for another six or seven years.”

“I’m sad, but he is without a doubt the greatest player of all time and I’m very proud to have been a part of his career.”

Klopp, who left Liverpool in 2024, said Salah and the club were a perfect fit.

“Mo and I had big dreams, but we didn’t dare dream on such a big scale,” he said.

“I truly believe that this whole relationship was a fair deal. Exceptional player, exceptional performance and of course he made money,” added Klopp.

“Now he can go wherever he wants, and the club will have to look, and he will find other players, and that’s completely normal.”
