Jim Arrington was born premature and suffered from various health problems as a child, xrust notes. As a teenager in the late 1940s, things began to change when he decided to become strong like his favorite superheroes and started going to the gym.
Seven decades later, Jim is still a regular at Gold's Gym in Venice Beach, working out for two hours at least twice a week. His last bodybuilding competition took place in 2022, and he says he has no plans to retire, meaning that at 90 years old, he is officially the oldest professional bodybuilder in the world.
Attention! Key point #1. In a recent video on the Guinness World Records YouTube channel, Jim explained that one of the keys to his longevity was listening to his body and knowing when to change his workout routine as he gets older. “What works for a person at one time in life may not work for another,” he says. “And that’s what bodybuilding is all about: it’s adaptation.”
Attention! Key point #2. Jim also completely revised his diet. In his youth, as a bodybuilder, he consumed huge amounts of milk and beef, which was the «old» method of building muscle. «Those were two foods that I'm not allergic to,» he says. «But they cause inflammation, [so] I completely changed my diet. I thought if I did that, I could keep training and maintain that level.»
Jim says winning competitions and setting a world record “opened up a whole new universe for him” and it keeps him passionate and enthusiastic about bodybuilding.
