iOS 27 beta 5 brought five changes: from new icons to changes in Siri

Apple rolled out the fifth beta version of iOS 27 — and instead of the usual silence before the release, it revised little things: other icons, a stripped-down Control Center and Siri, who spoke with a British accent.

New icons without warning

The first thing that catches your eye after installation is the application icons, notes xrust. Safari, Siri, “Settings”, “Remote” and Preview have received an updated look in the style of Liquid Glass: Siri’s glass has become more visible, and Safari’s has a dot in the center of the icon. Other system icons have also been tweaked in small ways — for example, “Orders” in Wallet.

Nothing revolutionary, but with each beta Apple noticeably brushes up the interface to a single standard — there is just over a month left before the release of iOS 27, and such polishing usually means that the design is already close to the final one.

Control Center stopped talking too much

In the fourth beta they already tried to remove this behavior, but then returned it; in the fifth version, Apple finally brought the matter to an end: the cellular network indicator disappears again when the phone is on Wi-Fi. At the same time, the Wi-Fi and network icons themselves have changed slightly — the signal bars have become taller, the Wi-Fi symbol has become wider.

Siri spoke British

Siri AI voice settings — adjusting speech tempo and expressiveness — have been expanded from American English to British. Previously, the Pace and Expressivity sliders only worked with a subset of American voices, but now they work with all seven American and four British voices, and each parameter has five levels of adjustment.

There is a nuance: the feature is not available to everyone, but only to owners of the iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max and iPhone Air — Apple processes these voice models directly on the device, and this requires at least 12 GB of RAM. For a Russian user, this function is more interesting theoretically: Siri AI in its current form does not support the Russian language at launch, so it’s too early to talk about choosing an accent.

Contacts have become a little more informative

A small but practical change in the Contacts application: if a saved contact has a company specified, its name is now displayed directly below the name — both in the contact list and in search results. Previously, this information had to be opened separately by clicking on the contact card.

Hint screens and search control

Apple added welcome screens when you first launch Photos, Calendar, Music and Wallet — they briefly show what has changed in the application, so as not to force the user to look for innovations on their own. And in the settings, a new item “Before Searching” has appeared — it allows you to independently determine how many application results to show in the system search.

The assembly turned out to be non-sensational, but indicative: the fifth beta usually means that major features have already been established, and Apple is polishing the little things before the release, which is traditionally expected in September along with the new iPhone.
