A documentary about the Hollywood Vampires supergroup will be shown at the opening of the 42nd Boston Film Festival — with a live appearance from the musicians and questions from the audience.

The documentary «Unleashed Spirits: The Rise of the Hollywood Vampires» will open the 42nd Boston Film Festival, which runs from September 17 to 21. The world premiere is scheduled for September 18, the screening will take place at the Boch Center Wang Theater.
For those who are not into rock mythology: Hollywood Vampires is not just a name for a poster, but a very real club. In the early 1970s, Alice Cooper organized private gatherings for musicians who were not averse to drinking and discussing creative matters — John Lennon and Keith Moon from The Who dropped in at various times. Half a century later, the name was inherited by a supergroup: Cooper himself, Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry, producer and songwriter Tommy Henriksen and — the same actor from «Pirates of the Caribbean» — Johnny Depp on guitar.
The film was directed by Emmy-nominated director Daniel E. Catullo III, known for his music documentaries. Producers include Paul Geary, a native of the Boston suburb of Medford, a former drummer for the band Extreme and now an artist manager, as well as businessman and music lover Ernie Bock Jr., owner of an automobile empire in New England.
Cooper, Perry and Henriksen promised to come to the opening of the festival to discuss the premiere and answer questions from the public; Catullo will also be there. The festival's executive director, Robin Dawson, emphasized in a statement that this year's program focuses on stories that «connect cultures and make you look at familiar things differently» — the wording is streamlined, but it is convenient to frame a biopic about a drinking club that has become a rock legend.
In parallel with the show, Warner Bros. Television Group is hosting a series of panel discussions in Boston with Emerson College and the Massachusetts College of Art and Design, specifically a gathering for aspiring content creators.
The film comes out at the peak of the band's form: in August, the Hollywood Vampires went on tour for the first time in more than three years, opening it at London's O2 Arena, where Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood appeared on stage. At the same time, the musicians released a digital version of the live album “At Montreux Jazz Festival” — a recording of a 2018 performance dedicated to the memory of Lemmy Kilmister from Motörhead; The disc on physical media is promised to be released in October.
