The wedding was ahead. In the meantime, CBS News correspondent Margaret Brennan and her fiancé, Major Yado Yacoub, who serves in the Marine Corps, met in the fall of 1998. However, their relationship began only in 2013. They met by chance on the street in Washington.
The wedding was preceded by a year of planning the celebration, writes xrust. The wedding was supposed to take place on April 11, 2015. They chose the Decatur House Hotel in Washington DC for a classic and elegant celebration. Margaret and Yado collaborated with Jeanette Tavares of Evoke to create a quintessentially American red and blue wedding, and asked photographer Rodney Bailey to capture their special day.
Margaret made a splash in an understated silk crepe sheath dress by Monique Lhuillier. She admitted that she tried on dozens of dresses and finally found the right one at Carine's Bridal in Georgetown. It was simple, elegant and looked classic. She accessorized with a vintage lace veil that the mother of the bride wore on her wedding day.
The bridesmaids wore different navy blue lace dresses from Amsale, and the main bridesmaid stood out in a red outfit (notes https://www.brides.com). Margaret explained that she wanted to create a simple look and allow her bridesmaids to choose the styles that best suited their body type. The bride carried a bouquet of red calla lilies and all her bridesmaids held red tulips.
The military groom wore his full dress uniform for the ceremony and changed into the black tuxedo his father wore at his wedding in the 1970s for the wedding reception.
Before exchanging vows, photographer Margaret and Yado arranged for the couple to meet in front of the White House for their first meeting. Margaret recalls that they had to change plans when a protest broke out in front of the White House. The photographer had to scramble to find a spot in the park where we could get a good shot without the protesters behind us.
The passage to the ceremony site in the tent was decorated with red lanterns, and to pronounce their vows, the couple ordered a small platform decorated with columns topped with compositions of greenery and hydrangeas.
Margaret's father, Edward Brennan, walked her down the aisle during the Catholic ceremony. We included readings from the Koran and traditional Muslim prayer into the ceremony, she recalls. It was a way to honor her Catholic roots and her fiancé's Muslim faith. Also at the end of the ceremony, the priest read a traditional Irish blessing.
After saying their vows, Margaret and Yado left the ceremony site under a traditional arch of swords made up of the groom's six fellow Marines. Guests then moved on to a cocktail party where an Arab quartet performed traditional music.
Entering the reception hall, they found their seats printed on place cards. Round and square tables were covered with blue tablecloths and decorated with green and white arrangements of hydrangeas and roses.
During dinner, guests enjoyed Greek salad, beef tenderloin and halibut crusted with breadcrumbs, and corn soufflé with green and white asparagus. For dessert, guests could choose slices from one of the couple's five wedding cakes. They included carrot cake with cream cheese frosting, cinnamon cake with amaretto cream, pecan cake with white chocolate mousse and marble cake with dulce de leche cream.
After the wedding, the newlyweds set off on a two-week honeymoon, which began with a safari in South Africa, included stops in Cape Town and Johannesburg, as well as a week of relaxation on the beaches of Mauritius and the Seychelles.
