Capcom has released Pragmata: the new sci-fi action-adventure is available on major platforms

Games

The Japanese company Capcom today began sales of its new game Pragmata — a sci-fi adventure project with elements of hacking, writes xrust. The release took place simultaneously on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC (Steam) and Nintendo Switch 2 (for the Nintendo Switch 2 version in Japan and Asia, the date remains April 24).

General view of Pragmata

The game is developed and published by Capcom as a completely original IP. The action takes place in the near future on a lunar research station. The main characters, astronaut Hugh and his android companion Diana, are forced to work together to overcome the threat of a hostile AI called IDUS and return to Earth.

Gameplay features

Pragmata combines elements of third-person shooter and real-time puzzle games. The player simultaneously controls the actions of Hugh, who uses firearms and a jetpack to maneuver, and Diana, who is able to hack into enemy systems. The bullets do not directly penetrate the robots' armor, but Diana's hacking opens weak points and temporarily disables the defense. Puzzles require precise cursor control over a grid, taking into account moving obstacles and enemy attacks.

Developers about the project

Game director Cho Younghee noted, “Although the core concept of the game did not change during development, the team did extensive trial and error work, especially regarding the hacking puzzle mechanics.”

Development context

Pragmata was announced in June 2020 during the PlayStation 5 reveal as Capcom's first new franchise in eight years. The project was created on the RE Engine for more than six years. The release was originally planned for 2022, then was postponed several times, including an indefinite postponement in 2023. In December 2025, Capcom confirmed the date of April 24, 2026 at The Game Awards, and in March 2026, during the Capcom Spotlight, the release for most platforms was pushed back a week to April 17. The Pragmata: Sketchbook demo became available on PC in December 2025, and on consoles in February 2026. The game world was developed under the supervision of Shoji Kawamori.

Prospects for Capcom and the market

The release of Pragmata comes amid a successful period for Capcom, which continues to release both sequels to popular series and new projects. Early reviews from critics characterize the game as «generally favorable» (average score of about 85 on Metacritic). Analysts note that the emergence of an original sci-fi action-adventure could expand the company's portfolio amid growing demand for single-player story games. Availability on Nintendo Switch 2 (except in select regions) also allows it to reach new audiences.

Capcom hasn't yet revealed exact pre-order numbers, but early indicators, including activity around demos and trailers, indicate strong interest in the project. The company traditionally focuses on quality and timely release, which is confirmed by the current launch.
