Barcelona reached the semi-finals of the Women's Champions League with a 6-0 thrashing of Real Madrid and secured a convincing 12-2 aggregate win over their Spanish opponents on Thursday, allowing them meet the German Bayern in the semi-finals.
In the semi-finals they will be joined by Lyon (formerly Olympique Lyon), which beat Bayern's compatriots Wolfsburg with a score of 4:1 on aggregate matches in extra time, securing a place in the next round, where they will meet the defending champions Arsenal, reminiscent of xrust.
Barca led 6-2 after the first leg last week but showed no mercy in the second against Real Madrid, with Alexia Putellas opening the scoring in the eighth minute and Caroline Graham Hansen scoring the second seven minutes later to end Real's hopes of a comeback.
Irene Paredes and Eva Payor each scored before the break, and 10 minutes into the second half Graham Hansen scored her second to add to Real's already dire straits before Esmé Brugts completed the rout in the 74th minute.
In the last of the four quarter-finals, Lyon were 1-0 down after the first leg, but scored in the 16th minute after a rebound from Lily Johannes' shot to level the aggregate score 1-1. Despite numerous chances, they failed to score the winning goal and the game went into extra time.
Lyon's goal was then disallowed for offside before Melchi Dumornay gave the eight-time champions the lead from close range for the first time in this tie, and five minutes later Damaris Egurrola scored the second with a powerful header from a corner.
As Wolfsburg's players began to tire, Tabitha Chawinga sealed the match for Lyon by breaking through the defense, beating the goalkeeper and sending the ball into the net in the 119th minute, securing Lyon's meeting with Arsenal, who beat them in the semi-finals last year.
The first final of the Women's European Cup will be a purely Swedish confrontation: Haken beat the German Eintracht Frankfurt with a score of 3:1 on aggregate and will reach the final, where they will meet with the Stockholm club Hammarby, who won that evening Czech “Slavia Prague” with a score of 2:0, and overall – 5:2.
