Arsenal in the Champions League final: Saka decided the outcome against Atlético Madrid

Sport and Health

London Arsenal took the most important step towards European triumph, making it to the final of the UEFA Champions League, writes xrust. In the semi-final return match, Mikel Arteta's team minimally beat Atlético Madrid with a score of 1:0, winning 2:1 on aggregate.

The hero of the meeting was the Gunners captain Bukayo Saka. His goal in the 44th minute proved decisive. The episode arose after Leandro Trossard's shot, which Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak coped with, but Saka was the first to finish.

For Arsenal, this is only the second time in the final of the main European club tournament in history. The Londoners first played at this stage in 2006, losing to Barcelona.

Pragmatism instead of spectacle

The semi-final confrontation turned out to be tense and tactically precise. In contrast to the more attacking football played by Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich, Arsenal relied on discipline and control.

A key factor in success was a reliable defensive game. The Londoners managed to neutralize Atlético's dangerous attack line, which featured Julian Alvarez, Marcos Llorente and Antoine Griezmann. The latter probably played his final European Cup match for the Madrid club.

Already in the opening of the match, Alvarez had a chance to open the scoring, but shot wide. Soon, an important interception was made by Declan Rice, who became one of the key players in the match.

Nervous ending and emotions

After the break, Atlético stepped up its game. Giuliano Simeone had a dangerous chance, but defender Gabriel Magalhães managed to prevent the threat. The guests also demanded a penalty, but the referee remained adamant.

The ending of the meeting was a tense struggle. Spanish head coach Diego Simeone actively expressed his emotions on the touchline and received a yellow card, as did Arteta.

Alexander Sørlot missed the final chance to equalize, shooting wide of the goal at the end of the match.

Season on the brink of history

Reaching the Champions League final was a logical continuation of Arsenal's strong streak. The team is not only fighting for the European title, but is also close to winning the English Premier League for the first time since 2004.

Saka's return from injury was an important factor. The footballer scores for the second match in a row, confirming his status as the team leader.

The final of the tournament will take place on May 30 at the Puskas Arena stadium. Arsenal's opponent will be the winner of the PSG-Bayern pair.

Out of bounds

On the eve of the match, Arsenal fans staged a noisy protest near the Atlético Hotel in London, using fireworks. The Spanish club filed a complaint with UEFA, but this did not affect the outcome of the confrontation.
