Amazon launches AI assistant for clinic customers on its website and app

Amazon will expand access to its AI assistant aimed at healthcare professionals and to customers who use its website and app. This opens the way to optimizing the treatment of more than 30 diseases. So says the company, publishing the news on Tuesday.

As stated in a company press release, the artificial intelligence-based assistant can explain test results, connect patients with doctors and answer questions about medications and symptoms, xrust emphasizes. The model, announced in January, was previously only available to members of One Medical, the company's clinical services provider.

To use the free assistant, customers do not need to be members of Prime, the company's premium prescription drug service, or One Medical, Reuters reports.

“AI in healthcare is poised to take over the logistics and information work that creates barriers in healthcare, so patients and doctors can spend more time on what really matters,” said Andrew Diamond, chief medical officer at Amazon One Medical.

For non-life-threatening conditions, from acne and lice to diabetes and sleep apnea, the drug can help manage symptoms, conduct a virtual assessment of the condition and make treatment recommendations.

A company spokesman said the assistant does not create treatment plans, and when patients need treatment or have complex medical conditions, they are connected with a doctor. The cost of a doctor's visit is $29 for patients who are not One Medical members or who do not use the app.

Customers may grant an agent permission to access medical data, including test results, medical records, and clinical notes. The assistant can also analyze purchases of medical products made on the website, such as vitamins or blood pressure monitors, to ask additional questions.
