“A nightmare made of butter and cream”: Kristen Stewart spoke about the unbearable filming of the comedy “Full Phil”

American actress Kristen Stewart faced serious physical difficulties during the filming of the new absurdist comedy “Full Phil”. The premiere of the film by French director Quentin Dupieux took place as part of midnight screenings at the 79th Cannes Film Festival. The main problem for the Hollywood star was the abundance of heavy French cuisine, which she had to consume in kilograms on camera.

French gastronomic nightmare

The plot of the film is built around an American father and daughter, played by Woody Harrelson and Kristen Stewart. They come to Paris to mend fences, but their plans are derailed by strikes, strange hotel employees and an endless supply of delicacies. According to the script, Stewart's heroine, named Madeleine, eats continuously, literally sweeping away all traditional French dishes.

In an interview with Reuters journalists, the actress recalled with a laugh how she begged the team to take pity on her. “I told them: “Guys, you’re just going to kill me!” Everything was so French — all heavy cream and butter. These are exactly the products that I asked to replace with lighter alternatives,” the star shared. However, the chefs were unable to fool the camera, and the actress had to look for ways to “get around this grotesque.” It is noteworthy that Dupieux later declassified Stewart: she continued to eat enthusiastically even in between takes.

Ovation despite the absurdity

Despite the gastronomic torment of the actress, the metamorphoses on the screen did not affect her character. Due to Madeleine's insatiability, her on-screen father Phil (Harrelson) begins to bloat and suffer from bloating, which her daughter eventually turns into a kind of weapon against him.

The world press greeted the film ambiguously, calling Dupieux's humor specific, but the screening itself ended with a stormy five-minute ovation. The audience gave a real roar when Kristen Stewart's name appeared on the screens. The actress herself admitted that she agreed to the project even before reading the script, since she had long dreamed of working with Dupieux, considering him a real “master of auteur DIY cinema.”
